Attendees who are new to encaustics can add a pre-retreat beginner workshop (Wednesday and Thursday, April 6th & 7th). Attendees can also sign up for one of multiple post-retreat workshops being offered on Monday and Tuesday (April 11th& 12th).

WORKSHOP ONLY ATTENDEES are invited to join the retreat attendees on Sunday morning for a continental breakfast buffet, a presentation/talk, an IEA meeting and participate in a members art exchange. Everyone is welcome to attend the exhibition and artists reception on Sunday afternoon.

Registration will open later in the fall. Mark your calendar and watch for more details in September.

Call For Workshop Proposals

The International Encaustic Artists will host an intimate retreat in beautiful Morro Bay April 7-10, 2022.  The setting and an intentionally limited registration will allow for an opportunity to get to know fellow artists. The retreat will include shared learning experiences, including demonstrations and presentations and a panel discussion. There will be ample opportunities to “talk shop” at breakfast and lunch buffets, at Meet and Greet Reception and the newly revamped La Vendéenne Awards Dinner. An IEA Juried Exhibition and Reception closes the Retreat.

We are inviting you to be an integral part of this experience by sharing your expertise with us.  Proposals for a Pre- or Post-Retreat Workshop are now being accepted.  As is the case in most large gatherings for encaustic events, many of the venues have electrical limitations.  We are also open to proposals for a cold wax workshop. Venues will be assigned based on registration and the needs of the presenters.

Workshop presenters will be selected by proposal.  Please go to the application to submit your proposal.  Workshops will be open to any artists who wants to attend, even if they are not registered for the retreat.

Presenters choose their own fee (Suggested fee for 2-day workshop $350-550) which will be paid by those who register.   All registrations for the workshops come through IEA.  25% of each student registration goes to space rental and general materials provided by IEA. The remaining portion of the fee is split 50/50% between the instructor and IEA.  Instructor fees are payable sixty days after the close of the retreat.

Basic encaustic equipment (griddles and heat guns) will be provided along with some materials supplied by vendors.  In the materials description of the application, we ask you to be as complete as possible with your IEA needs and student materials requirements.

IEA will assign a minimum and maximum number of students based on registration and venue.  We will make every attempt to honor your numbers, but understand that the variables of location, electrical and registration numbers may require last minute adjustments.

We will be accepting proposals for ConVergence Workshops through November 3, 2021.  Those selected can expect to receive a response by November 15, 2021.  Pre- and Post-Retreat classes will be available for registration by December 2, 2021.

We are looking forward to reviewing your proposals.
