Wax Week: Creating Expressive Landscapes
June 13-17, 2020. Sat-Wed, 10-4 pm

$950 for 5 days with most materials included
Portland, Oregon
All levels welcome

When thinking of a special place, it's not just the visual landscape I remember, but also the colors, textures, scents, and stories attached to that memory. In this intensive 5-day workshop we'll paint landscapes that are special to us while exploring how to better capture the sense of the place, rather than just what it may look like.

This workshop will focus on encaustic and mixed media painting but we'll also incorporate travel sketching, stream of consciousness writing, and some exciting collaborative exercises with your fellow artists to create expressive landscapes that represent much more than an idealized postcard version of a place.

We'll use a variety of media to create your vision and focus on whatever makes sense for your individual paintings. We may choose to use pastels, ink, graphite, fine art crayons, or pigment sticks, so each session will be a little different. Working in a very small group makes this possible. I hope you'll join us!

All of my Wax Week workshops are easily accessible for someone with little or no experience working with encaustic, but I will also offer rich, personalized instruction for those who have more experience.

I keep my class sizes small, a maximum of 6 students, so everyone can learn at their own pace. This allows me to help introduce beginners to this new medium and still challenge more experienced artists with advanced tips and techniques.

Most supplies will be provided including encaustic medium, encaustic paint, brushes, paper, boards, and basic encaustic tools.
