Red Deer College Series Summer Arts School, Red Deer Alberta, Canada
This five-day workshop is an exploration of the amazing translucent, layered, smooth and textural effects that can be achieved when painting with sweet-smelling molten encaustic beeswax. Discover ways to colour, fuse, alter, and gild your collages, photo transfers and encaustic monoprints. Create 2-dimensional mixed media paintings, a 3-dimensional shadow box, and an encaustic book using Shary’s huge array of ephemera, unique papers, fabrics and enticing trinkets. Materials and techniques include coloured beeswaxes, alcohol inks, water-soluble paints, oil pigments, pastel, hot tools, metallics and more. Learn studio setup practices and a myriad of encaustic techniques in a fun and mutually supportive atmosphere. All materials provided in your supplies fee, however, students are welcome to bring any personal materials. Suitable for new or experienced artists. Classes are 9-4pm with optional evening projects available outside the classroom.
