    Instruction in a variety of print media including Monoprints, Intaglio, Relief, 
    and Encaustic Collagraph and Traditional Collagraph, Mixed Media Print Approaches.

     Designed for both beginners with no printmaking experience as well as experienced artists who would like to experiment and add new and different techniques to their own personal toolbox.  Each class will provide you with technical information and personal assistance with discovering and creating your own personal imagery.  For purposes of pulling prints, we will utilize a Richeson etching press along with alternative press-less printing methods including manual printing utilizing Akua Pin Pressess as well as a palm press.  We will also do some printing on some Roland Hotboxes.  ALL processes will be non-toxic.  Class size limited. 

    Artist Bio ~ Jeff Hirst has been exhibiting his work since 1987 and has shown extensively across the United States and Europe. Hirst’s work has been shown at The Minneapolis Institute of Art, the McKinney Contemporary in Dallas, Butters Gallery in Portland, Oregon and Arte Internazionale in Matera, Italy. Hirst is the owner of Hirst Printmaking, a printshop and teaching facility where research and exploration in experimental print ideas meld encaustic and printmaking.

    California Center for the Arts in Escondido, an area north of San Diego will feature a traveling encaustic show, Heated Exchange  September 25- November 13, 2016 sponsored by Virginia Commonwealth University Arts, Painting and Printmaking Department. Josie Rodriguez,local San Diego visual artist  and member of IEA has been invited to show her work in this encaustic show. Honored by the 2016 IEA Project Grant she will use this award in a collaborative project with middle school students, teaching about encaustic and helping them create pieces of art that will be shown  on a youth wall at the exhibition. Also featuring work by local artists Angela Koenig, and Jiela Rufeh.

    The Encaustic Art exhibit, Masters of Men & Spirit opens Saturday evening September 17th from 6:30 to 9:00 pm at ArtBeat on Main Street located at 330 Main Street in downtown Vista, California.  The opening reception will showcase Shima Shanti’s inspired artworks. Masters of Men & Spirit portrays Spiritual Masters, Hindu Deities, and Native American Chiefs including Buddha, Christ, Gnesha and Lakshmi; Chief Joseph, Mother Mary, Kwan Yin, Archangels and Saints and more. 

    MUSIC & CUISINE

    Wax and Screen: Combining Techniques for Unique Outcomes

    Three-day class: Friday - Sunday, July 29 - 31 from 10am-4pm. 

    Explore the dynamic relationship between screen printing and encaustic painting, creating repeatable designs and printing onto wax.

    This class will explore the dynamic relationship between screen printing and encaustic painting. Taught by visiting artists Shawna Moore and Jeff Hirst, the class will start with basic screen-printing concepts, where students will create repeatable screens to print onto wax. The class will then progress to printing on wax surfaces and creating multiple transparent layers of color and image. Students should be prepared to experiment and play as they learn new techniques to use in their own studio practice. 

    All materials are included except panels and paper. See the required materials list for suggested sizes and quantities, as well as optional supplies. Students may also wish to bring a lunch or snack.

    Don’t miss Shawna Moore’s and Jeff Hirst’s free evening presentations at the Wilkinson Library, July 27 and 28, respectively. Both are scheduled for 6-8 pm.
