Beginner and Monoprint Workshops with Rhonda Raulston (South Pasadena, CA)

Friday, April 24, 2015:

Two workshops to choose from: MORNING: 9am-12noon OR AFTERNOON: 2:00pm-5:00pm. . . All materials and tools are provided . .  $90/session

Class size limited to 8 students.  No previous drawing or painting experience necessary, and no experience with encaustic is necessary.  Creating ENCAUSTIC MONOPRINTS is an exciting way to be introduced to encaustic painting.

Students will learn:

  •  to create monoprints on different papers, card stocks and fabrics
  • to use incising & mark making, stamping
  • to crop their prints for dynamic compositions
  • to mount the prints onto greeting cards and onto larger works. 

Students will leave with 10-12 greeting cards, and several small pieces on card stock and different papers.  As with all our workshops, demonstrations are punctuated with ample studio time to practice, and individual instruction is provided.

Saturday, April 25 OR Sunday, April 26, 2015:  

ONE day, hands-on workshop (9:00am – 4:00pm). . .     All materials and tools are provided. .$175.00 

Class size limited to 8 students. 
No previous drawing or painting experience is necessary.  

The BEGINNER Encaustic Workshop demonstrations and lectures are followed up in the studio by blocks of time that allow students ample opportunities to experiment with techniques & create finished pieces.  


  • Safe studio set up and practices; Use of tools and implements 
  • About encaustic materials: paints, medium, supports, materials, etc.
  • The history of encaustic and view contemporary artists’ works
  • Encaustic techniques: paint/medium application, fusing, layering, color mixing, creating texture, scraping/incising, collage/embedding, image transfer, masking and stencils

Students will leave with 2 to 5 small works.

*OPEN STUDIO is an opportunity for students to refine techniques & develop /finish work started in other workshops, as well as create new works utilizing all they learned in the Beginners and/or Intermediate workshops.  Students with previous encaustic experience are welcome.
