2-day encaustic workshop at the KALA Institute in Berkeley, CA

Tuition $192 + Materials $80 Total Cost $272
Encaustic: the most magical of mediums! Encaustic is a process that uses pigmented beeswax manipulated by heat tools to create works of art. "Introduction to Mixed Media Encaustics" is an excellent gateway workshop into this versatile medium. We will be covering the basics of encaustic painting including information about materials, tools, safety and studio set-up. Over the course of this two day workshop we will create multiple sample boards using a variety of introductory encaustic techniques. The addition of mixed media will focus on image transfers, drawing tools, and how to incorporate collage. Multiple lecture/demos will be given throughout the workshop along with plenty of practice time. I emphasize that we are not working towards a “completed painting” in this workshop. This weekend is designed to understand the application of the wax, build confidence with the medium, and open the door of possibilities of what you can do as an artist.
No prior encaustic experience is required. Most materials are supplied and a materials list will be e-mailed upon registration.
All registration is done through KALA. Read more about me, Jaya King, by visiting my website. Check out the links below!
