Maura Joy Lustig
An avid artist, Maura has been drawing and painting all her life. She lives in Peterborough, Ontario, 1.5 hours northeast of Toronto. Maura is
passionate about health, travel, painting, reading and writing. Since 2004 she has combined her creativity with her business experience and
training and dedicated herself first to painting, and now also to serving others as a career life coach. As an artist, writer, coach and speaker
she inspires, motivates and empowers others to reignite their passion, connect it successfully with purpose and enjoy life in the process.
ARTIST STATEMENT
I create vibrant, colourful, abstract and realistic paintings using an ancient technique called encaustic. I use only natural elements, painting
on braced wooden canvases with pure beeswax, resin and high grade encaustic paints and I love the way the wax flows and creates new patterns and
images. The translucent quality of the fragrant beeswax and resin allows light to penetrate the layers and radiate outwardly so that the paintings
appear to glow and give energy. Employing a time honoured method such as Encaustic, gives me a sense of connection to the past. Contemplating nature
can lead to inner transformation. I seek to point out the extraordinary in the ordinary and my intention is to create images that serve as a
“gateway’ that opens the doors for reflection and connection to spirit. I am drawn to the universal symbols of spirals and circles found in natural
phenomena and I am continually aware of the relationship between mind, body and spirit. I trust that inspiration will manifest itself physically
through me - by allowing me to express my spirit on canvas in a way that all can relate to and respond to.
