ARTIST STATEMENT
Painting with hot, liquid wax is an ancient technique being explored in new ways today.
The combination of the 2000 year old medium (encaustic wax) on the modern surface of
plexiglas or mylar, for instance, creates a fresh visual experience. The light coming
through the back of the plexiglas picks up the colored pigments in the wax and shows
them to the viewer in a way that lacks the heaviness of traditional materials. Wax on
plexiglas looks like color floating in space.
