IEA Member Artist Profile

Lauri Packebush

Lauri Packebush lives in the coastal city of Anchorage, Alaska. She has drawn, painted, altered, and glued from a very young age. By age 8, she had written, illustrated, and bound so many books that her father had to build a large bookshelf to accomodate them. Her love of books and reading led to a 30 year career as a school librarian and English teacher. Now retired, she has re-dedicated herself to becoming a professional artist.

ARTIST STATEMENT

When I paint, most often, a portrait appears. I feel very connected to the shape and uniqueness of the human face. Although I have painted many friends and famiy members, it is the faces that emerge from my imagination, that please me the most. My approach to encaustics is a departure from many artists using the medium today. Simple, bright, and bold.
