IEA Member Artist Profile
Kathleen McMahon
Kathleen McMahon has had a lifetime of involvement with art, working in painting medias, ceramics, stained glass and wood craft. She has
taught art to developmentally challenged children and adults.
She is now primarily a landscape painter focused in oils, painting on location in and around the Bay Area of Northern California and
wherever she travels. In many cases, she completes a painting on location (plein air painting) in one session. Other paintings are
done entirely in the studio. She uses oils and works in an impressionistic or minimalist/abstract style, influenced by past and current
California landscape painters. Recently, she has begun to more fully explore abstract art in oils as well as representational and
abstract encaustic wax art.
ARTIST STATEMENT
Art has been a life long exploration and I am fortunate to have the opportunity to paint as a professional artist. My recent
focus in art has been on oil and wax paintings of the California landscape. As urban sprawl takes away more of the unique and open landscape,
I am intriqued by capturing the natural settings that remain as well as the interesting interplay at the intersections of nature and
urbanization.
