IEA Member Artist Profile
Emily Clawson
The imagery of Emily Clawson’s artwork is a response to exploration of the natural world. Sea algae, coral, plants, seedpods and insect
wing patterns are sources of imagery for the art. These sources are examined macro and microscopically. Under the microscope elements are
found and documented to help forge a visual language for the drawn and painted marks. The art takes shape through a mixed media approach
using transferred drawing, wax, pigment, and found objects to build up multiple layers that reference different characteristics of the
subject. The artwork is an invitation to consider concepts of fragility and sustainability through exploration of tiny intricate worlds
within.
