IEA Member Artist Profile

Deborah Kruger

In an effort to blur and possibly eliminate the dichotomy of art and craft, Deborah Kruger has a unique blend of fiber and encaustic. Kruger has paired them to create a body of work that is both contemporary and archetypal.

ARTIST STATEMENT

I am especially drawn to indigenous art from West Africa and the Amazon Basin. The ragged beauty and use of commonplace materials inspire me as does the innate message that art making is both sensible and sacred. This body of work grew out of my desire to make art that is more intuitive and less intellectual. The narrative here is the wordless conversation between the pieces and myself and the magical combustion of hands and materials.
