David A. Clark is an encaustic artists from Palm Springs, CA.
ARTIST STATEMENT
My work is inspired by a certain distant nostalgia. When I think of nostalgia, I think of symbols, memories and a particular diffuse light.
This memory path of light leads me further into a dream state where symbols, impressions, and past and future are all suspended in the same
spatial plane. Encaustic lends itself perfectly to dream worlds and dreamscapes. Objects and symbols can be embedded, suspended and
distanced allowing the viewer to be envelopped and entranced. The viewer is pulled in, much like we are pulled in by dreams and memories,
allowing our eye to wander and discover the past, the present and the imagined in the murky, and sometimes brilliant layers of wax.
