Announcing the Third Annual International Encaustic Artist Retreat & Conference Dates: April 24 – 27, 2008 Place: Hidden Valley Art Center, Carmel Valley, CA Cost: $325.00 if paid by February 29th, 2008. Registration after will be $375.00 NOTE: Lodging onsite options are now all full! Includes lodging for Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights plus dinner on Thursday, breakfast, lunch and dinner on Friday, breakfast, lunch and dinner on Saturday and breakfast and lunch on Sunday. There are a limited number of double occupancy lodging spaces available on-site at the Hidden Valley Center, rooms will be given on a “first-come first-served” basis. Cost for IEA members who wish to stay off-site is $250.00 paid by February 29th, 2008. Registration after will be $300.00. Onsite meals provided as described above. The Retreat cost is the same this year as last year, but we have added an additional day and additional meals! What a bargain. We are able to do this because IEA is underwriting part of this year’s cost’s allowing you to have a longer retreat for the same cost as last year. Contemporary Print describes Crown Point as “the most instrumental American print shop in the revival of etching as a medium of serious art.” The incredibly diverse talents of Kathan Brown have nurtured and enriched and enormous community of artists both here and abroad. Richard is an artist, teacher, author and inveterate promoter of all things encaustic. Seduced by the medium, Furness started making paint in his Brooklyn apartment in 1988. In 1990 he moved his business to Kingston, New York and last spring expanded yet again to a 7,000 square foot building. He has a staff of 10 printmakers who are all artists. He has even established a four-day workweek so that his employees have time to make their art. You are going to fall in love with the man who brings us this excellent product! Best known for applying tinted beeswax to nearly transparent Plexiglas panels, her work has been featured in ARTnews, Art in America and The New York Times. Heather works out of two studios, one in Brooklyn, the other in Woodstock, where she lives with her husband and son. Many thanks to Heather for taking time out of her busy schedule to join us. IEA Member Presentations Miles Conrad, artist and co-owner of Conrad Wilde Gallery, Tucson, AZ will be demonstrating techniques that he uses to create his stunningly unique 3 dimensional paintings. He will also be participating on a group panel discussion with Q&A. Lissa Rankin, author of Encaustic & Beyond: A Guide to Creating Fine Art With Wax, will demonstrate examples of advanced techniques described in her book, including layering and scraping, masking off shapes with tape, wax casting with clay, accretion techniques, and intarsia (inlay).
